Lawn mowers come in many shapes and sizes but
all are built for the same purpose - to mow the
lawn. Bellow is my guide to choosing the right
lawn mower for the job.
There are three main types of lawn mowers, the
cylinder and the rotary machines and the hover.
The hover mower is basically a rotary mower which
creates a down draft of air, causing the mower
to hover. This kind of lawn mower cuts the grass,
however the finished result is perhaps a little
uneven and maybe tuffty - requiring further mowing.
The main use for this type of lawn mower would
be for the smaller gardens and for those who wish
for a low maintenance lawn mower.
Rotary machines are perhaps the best for getting
the job done quickly and are simple to maintain.
The key areas to look for when buying a rotary
mower are the max and min blade height and the
blade spin speed. The blade height is obviously
to give you the length you require. The blade
speed is important because if the mower travels
faster than the speed the blade can cut grass
at then you will be left with clumps of uncut
grass.
Cylinder lawn mowers offer a better finish to
the lawn. Although the initial outlay of cost
and the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of a cylinder
mower is more than a rotary mower, if you are
looking for a superior finish to your lawn then
there will be no substitute for a cylinder mower.
